Mother Nature and all her guises.
From the moment I first set out to capture the beautiful Hunter Valley en plein air, in oil paint, I was captivated by Mother Nature and all her guises. Fifty years ago, I learned to paint quickly, to gain an impression of a moment in time. Many who have judged my work and awarded my efforts have commented on the freshness of my paintings. I will always value those early years and the lessons I learned outdoors. Following the teachings of Max Meldrum, I would block my paintings in, paying attention to the abstract tonal pattern that lies beneath every subject. My love of colour and how it behaves has been given a new lease of life in my abstracted or semi-abstracted work.

Inspired by love: Nature's continuous canvas
I’ve always painted what I love. Flowers in antique vases, gardens and the Australian countryside have been my subject matter. In more recent years, I started doing paintngs of our local beaches. I'm now experimenting with different media, which allows for new expressions and outcomes. I hope my enthusiam for taking on the unfamiliar overflows into both my more abstracted work and that which is traditional.

Finding peace in art: A shared sanctuary
I have often been told my work is peaceful. In a world that is full of turmoil, my haven is my creative space. If my work gives joy and peace to others, that is my greatest reward. Connecting with my artwork offers the viewer a moment of calm and reflection, a serene escape from the everyday. I want my art to be a source of solace and beauty.
