Hunter Wetlands: an exhibition in the making
For the past year, I've been deeply immersed in creating a new collection of paintings for an upcoming exhibition which I'm sharing with Newcastle artist Eugenia Dunlevie at Hunter Wetlands. This incredible sanctuary, a refuge for birds from all corners of the globe, boasts a unique landscape of swamplands beautifully integrated with public walkways. It's been a challenging yet incredibly rewarding experience to capture its essence on canvas.

Finding inspiration at first light
Initially, , despite my commitment.I found it difficult to get inspired for the Hunter Wetlands exhibition. My perspective completely shifted when Eugenia and I embarked on a buggy ride at sunrise. To my absolute delight, the entire landscape took on a different guise. At first light, elements that had previously seemed bland were touched by a golden glow. Mist rose from the reed beds, creating an air of mystery. I was truly in my element, fired up and ready to start working. This experience transformed my approach to the collection.

Exploring the artist's world: topics for discussion
I often reflect on questions that I believe resonate with art lovers and aspiring artists. How does the use of different media affect my creative process? Do certain subjects cry out to be painted in oil, pastel, or mixed media? Do artists truly see the world differently? How has my work evolved over 50 years? Where do I store my work, and does a studio need to be large to function effectively? I also frequently get asked if I give lessons. I look forward to delving into these topics and more in future posts.
