As a Novocastrian, our beaches mean more to us than just sand and sea; they are woven into the fabric of our lives. From the lighthouse of Nobbys to the bluffs of Dudley, these paintings capture the magnificent views and vibrant energy that define our coastline. A childhood by the sea
My journey with these beaches began in childhood, when on sweltering summer afternoons my family caught the bus to Newcastle beach. Memories of cooling swims and picnics under the pavilion with my family are deeply ingrained. Today, I find inspiration walking the promenade, photographing and forming new paintings in my mind at every turn, continuously reconnecting with the movement of the water.
The raw power of the ocean
Unlike my rural landscapes, the Beaches collection features a distinct colour palette, focusing on the dynamic blues, greens, and whites of the ocean. My aim is to convey the immense power of the waves. To truly understand their force, I've stood in the shallow water, feeling the powerful ebb and pull of the ocean firsthand. I hope this experience resonates within each brushstroke, bringing the raw energy of the sea directly to you.
